Operations strategy is a major source of competitive advantage in for-profit businesses and the route to achieving social welfare in not-for-profit enterprises. No matter what sector, it can have a huge impact - not just in the short term, but also on an enduring basis. And when something is all around us, like operations resources are, it can be difficult to see them in their entirety. This is the paradox of operations strategy. It lies at the heart of how organisations manage their strategic intent in practice and is vitally important for long-term success.

As you begin your study of organic chemistry, you might feel overwhelmed by the number of compounds, names, reactions, and mechanisms that confront you. You might even wonder whether you can learn all this material in a single year. The most important function of a textbook is to organize the material to show that most of organic chemistry consists of a few basic principles and many extensions and applications of these principles.
