Abstract: A pilot study, in which we conducted inhalable particulate matter (PM10) measurements in four public elementary schools in Bogotá, is presented. Three of these schools are located alongside major urban roads with different types of public transportation. The remainder school is located alongside a rural road. PM10 measurements were carried out using both gravimetric and real time techniques. Average PM10 concentrations found in the schools ranged from 55 ug m-3 to 91 ug m-3. These pollutant concentrations are above the World Health Organization reference values. Significant differences in PM10 concentrations were observed between the schools located in urban roads and the school located in the semi-rural area.The present work corresponds to the base line results of a longitudinal study that is still being conducted. These results demonstrate the importance of continuing developing research aimed at characterizing the range of atmospheric pollutants at major city roads environments in Bogota. Resumen: Se presenta un estudio piloto en el que se caracterizaron los niveles de material particulado respirable (PM10) en cuatro colegios distritales (CD) en Bogotá. Tres de estos CD estaban ubicados en inmediaciones de vías consideradas de alto tráfico vehicular, por las que circulan diferentes tipos de transporte público (colectivo convencional y masivo).El CD restante (utilizado como sitio control para el experimento) se encontraba ubicado sobre una vía en una zona semi-rural de la ciudad. La determinación de las concentraciones atmosféricasde PM10 se realizó utilizando técnicas de medición gravimétricas y en tiempo real. Los niveles medios de PM10 registrados en los CD se encuentran en un rango entre 55 y 91 ug m-3. Estas cifras indican que las concentraciones del contaminante al interior de las instituciones educativas exceden los valores considerados como nocivos para poblaciones sensibles por la Organización Mundial de la Salud. Se encontraron diferencias significativas entre las concentraciones de PM10 encontradas en el CD seleccionado como control y las concentraciones encontradas en los otros CD. Los resultados aquí presentados corresponden a la línea base de un estudio longitudinal que aún está en desarrollo y evidencian la necesidad de continuar con investigación orientada a caracterizar el rango de concentraciones de material particulado en las inmediaciones de las principales vías de la ciudad de Bogotá.

Este trabajo se presentó en Abril de 2009 en un seminario de ingeniería financiera. El propósito del seminario era introducir a estudiantes de derecho financiero, maestría en finanzas y estudiantes de maestría de administración de empresas (MBA) instrumentos financieros creados recientemente y sobre los cuales no existiera literatura académica previa. El 30 de enero de 2009, en medio de turbulencias severas en los mercados financieros y rumores persistentes acerca de una posible nacionalización del banco, Barclays Bank PLC introdujo un instrumento financiero que aprovecha la volatilidad de los mercados de capitales. Un instrumento conocido como Nota transable en bolsa (ETN, Exchange traded note) que deriva su valor de un índice de volatilidad (El índice de volatilidad de la bolsa de opciones de Chicago (CBOE) el índice VIX, comúnmente conocido como el índice del ¨miedo financiero¨). Este documento intentara explicar los rasgos únicos de este titulo y una metodología hipotética para su valoración.

Tanto por la importancia de sus obras como por la atención que ha atraído, este escrito quiere analizar la importancia de la Donación Botero. Mediante un registro tanto de lo que en ella se encuentra como del significado cultural que ha tenido dentro de su entorno nacional y en Latinoamerica. A manera de introducción Se expone brevemente la situación de la cultura en Colombia, su patrimonio cultural, sus colecciones de Arte más importantes y algunas observaciones de la difícil situación en la que se encuentra el país y la incidencia que ello genera en el desarrollo de las artes y la cultura en general. Para dimensionar la importancia de la colección se hace un recuento de las colecciones públicas y privadas en Latinoamérica y Colombia. Posteriormente se expone extensamente la figura de Fernando Botero, cómo artista, coleccionista y figura protagónica de la cultura colombiana, como se mencionó anteriormente, de aproximarme a un artista o coleccionista, a sus motivaciones, gustos y a la relación existente entre los valores artísticos de la colección con relación a los del artista, exponiendo detenidamente la colección. También se referiere el proceso de donación, las condiciones y concesiones que hicieron posible esta donación y a los diferentes proyectos educativos y de difusión que se realizan con la mismas publicaciones, información en la Web, actividades.

Abstract: The world is full of perceptions and different ways of identify and see the reality. Reality is not a statement, is an objective interpretation of what is happening to each one of us; each human being has it’s own way to perceive it. This Project reflects, in a simple but strong mode, a few ways of alter reality and how a user can perceive, in different situations, his / her own reality; how they can modify it by their own or by external facts and how many realities they are able to detect, all this, materialized in a space. Resumen: El mundo está lleno de percepciones y diferentes maneras de identificar y ver la realidad. La realidad no es una hecho definitivo, es una interpretación objetiva de lo que le está sucediendo a cada uno de nosotros; cada ser humano tiene su propia manera de percibirlo. Este proyecto refleja, en un modo simple pero fuerte, algunas de las formas de alteración de la realidadr y cómo un usuario puede percibir, en diferentes situaciones, la misma; la forma en que puede modificar por su cuenta o por factores externos y el número de realidades que son capaces de detectar, todo esto, materializado en un espacio.

This is the final result of an investigation. This paper seeks to engage in a general exploration about some possible theoretical understandings about indigenous peoples’ rights, since there is the concern that their group rights have been systematically neglected by the nation-state and the international community. Concretely, there is the perception that the interests of the indigenous peoples have not been adequately addressed by the Colombian state due to a uni-dimensional framework for defining the meaning of being developed. In that sense, the main objective of this document consists of providing a conceptual interconnection between the right to development (R2D) and collective rights, group rights, minority rights and cultural rights of indigenous peoples. The justification of this paper is the necessity of exploring the ways through which the indigenous peoples can take advantage of their R2D, as it encompasses other rights, i.e., individual, collective, group, minority, and cultural rights. In other words, I seek to stress the potential of the R2D for justifying different views of being developed, since some core human rights instruments can be easily embedded in the provisions of the United Nations Declaration on the Right to Development (DRD).

This paper conducted a review and update about the current distribution of Sotalia dolphins that inhabit freshwater in Colombia, Ecuador and Peru, as well as freshwater and estuarine areas in Venezuela and Suriname. This review and update is based on previous research and on information from recent surveys conducted in selected rivers across the Amazon and Orinoco River basins, and in estuarine areas of Suriname. This paper is part of an initiative to establish a network of Freshwater Protected Areas (FWPAs), specifically involving researchers, governments and local communities into the South American River Dolphin Protected Area Network (SARDPAN), whose goal is to investigate the ecological integrity of freshwaters for the conservation of river dolphins in the Amazon and Orinoco River basins in South America.

This article attempts to analyze the discourse underlying the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and the confronting voices of the four countries that voted against this instrument. Through a frame analysis, the conception of (human) rights, development, well-being, lands, and the very notion of nation-state will be presented with regard to the two opposing views. Frames change throughout time; they are dynamic. Thus, what appears to be not negotiable today can be debated in the future. The very fact that indigenous peoples are regarded as an important actor in the international fora is something which was not thought some decades ago. The recognition of different ways of being developed is gaining interest. This article explores the pros and cons of this political struggle. To determine which position is the most convincing would depend on the reader’s background, values, and interests.

This paper illustrates the analysis of an intensive research in several books and organisational theories, exemplifies the nature of various organisational structures and how those structural mechanisms affect project management. There will be suggestion of what may be the most suitable scenarios which Project Managers could obtain the maximum performance to achieve the organisational goals and with this, keep evolving the industry and managing changes to attend market needs.
