With the help of the educational cornmunity, the school garden was built as a didactic strategy, and from it, its impact on undestanding and solving problems related to the notion of length and perimeter measurement was described; since the students presented displayed difficulty when solving problems of this nature, as much in the internal tests as in the tests to know. For this, a didactic sequence was designed, in order to estimate, compare and measure the length of various elements of the school garden, therefore, it began, with the use of sorne body parts, as units of measure of length, for later, move to standardized units and with these bases establish the perimeter of beds and crop pyramids. The orchard was constituted in a context of learning, in which the students manipulated seeds, plants and instruments of length measurement and this unchained a management of technical vocabulary and an adequate mathematical communication; In this way, the comprehension and solution of problems was facilitated through the development of the three phases of the Mason method adapted to the fourth grade students.
