Los programas de artistas en residencia (AIR), ofrecen una posibilidad de generar espacios en los que un grupo de artistas convive e interactúa con una comunidad o un contexto (The OMC Working Group on Artists’ Residencies, 2014). Sin embargo muchos de estos programas se centran en el proceso de producción. El programa AIR de Experimentem amb l’ART se enfoca en la articulación de las propuestas de los residentes a través de espacios de experimentación con el público, un modelo que requiere estudiarse más a fondo. En este estudio de caso se indagó sobre la residencia en EART desde una perspectiva narrativa a través de la observación, entrevistas y mapeo de elementos y relaciones que se posibilitan a través de un programa de sus características. Como resultado emergen relaciones, formas de explicarse y dar sentido a la residencia, así como fricciones derivadas de las lógicas e imaginarios que atraviesan al centro y los artistas. Conocer estos aspectos ayudará a enriquecer las discusiones que ya se han ido abriendo en torno a roles híbridos que asumen los artistas, en la búsqueda de elementos que puedan ser transferidos a otros programas con enfoques similares.

The rapid rise in prison population worldwide has made that England, Wales, Colombia and the rest of the nations invest a great portion of their public expenditure to either maintain populous prisons or build new ones. Being leadership an important factor to comprehend not only the prison phenomena but the positive developments brought about by education in corrections, this qualitative case study research examines to what extent the educational programmes run in a British Prison influence convicts to undertake leadership roles in the correction and society, therefore, resume their lives and avoid reoffending. Hence it was conducted semi-structure interviews to four teachers and four prisoners who integrated the educational courses in a British prison category C. Although the findings of this study established that the educational practices had positive effects on prisoners by acquiring social, academic, cultural, employable and communicative skills, there was strong evidence that depicted the necessity of embracing practical and higher education courses in the prison so as to enhance the convicts’ outcomes. Similarly, the study found mentoring together with other leading styles and practices carried out by prisoners and teachers as positive interventions to encourage the development of rehabilitation. Overall, those results led this research study to determine some practices that could be utilised in Colombian prisons as well as the creation of a framework - ‘framework for leadership development in prison’- to inspire leadership development when being involved in the educational programmes.

The main research question I explore is: What are the political and socio-environmental factors that can explain the Bogota’s river governance failure related to its pollution? To achieve this I analyse the relationship between society in the basin and the flow of water from a political ecology perspective. This work is divided in five sections, which includes a literature review relating the theories of the political ecology of the production of nature, common pool resource management, Tragedy of the Commons and governance. The scope of this work is limited to Bogota River’s basin in the spatial scale and the historical processes of the last 50 years. After evaluating the different interactions of the stakeholders and the river, I discuss that Bogota’s river has become a political object, using Robbins (2012) theses of political ecology. I arrive at this conclusion after analysing Bogota River’s situation following the flow of the water in spatial and temporal dimensions, seeing the production of nature (and in this case a polluted river as a result) as a historical spatial-ecological transformation that expresses the contradictions and tensions of modern times by the transformation of nature and society. I follow the water creating a narrative, to explore modernity as a geographical and socially contested project. Finally, I analyse how the sentence published in March 2014, by the Colombian State’s Council, currently tackles the issues that undermine good governance, identified in the rivers narrative and how it might help or hinder river restoration.

Después de más de 20 años de éxito del sistema indexado de financiamiento de vivienda (UPAC) a través del cual la vivienda se convirtió en un sector líder como parte de una amplia estrategia de desarrollo diseñada para acelerar la urbanización e industrialización colombiana, el sistema sufrió modificaciones estructurales en donde pasó de estar únicamente atado a la inflación para pasar a indexarse a la tasa de interés también. Esto generó una fuerte alza en el costo real del financiamiento, desencadenando una crisis de pagos por parte de una alta proporción de usuarios que terminaron perdiendo su vivienda y desatando una crisis social. Esta situación paralizó el sector de la construcción, retrocediendo fuertemente en el proceso de crecimiento a través de este modelo. El gobierno intentó reparar el modelo volviendo al esquema original (atado únicamente a la inflación) y renovando el nombre del sistema con la iniciativa UVR. No obstante, este sistema no ha podido recuperar la capacidad motora que tuvo en sus comienzos.

Victims of forced displacement and extreme poverty in Colombia: between uprooting, revictimization and social exclusión

The following study aimed to establish the social and political factors involved in the extreme poverty suffered by most of forcefully displaced persons in Colombia. To do so, a conscientious research was made and a survey was conducted. In addition, it was demonstrated that forced displacement is a strategy used by every violent actor of the internal conflict in Colombia, intended for impose their particular regimes based on violence and inequality. Moreover, was also established the relevance that in conflict has had the unfinished construction of the Colombian state, as well as the key role that has its differentiated presence throughout national territory and its co-opted reconfiguration by legal and illegal actors. Then, it was also shown that poverty goes beyond the economic aspect and involves, specifically for the case of IDPs (Internal Displaced Populations), phenomena such as uprooting, revictimization and social exclusion. Above, remarking the multidimensional character of poverty studied from the Capability Approach (CA) introduced by Amartya Sen and, the central importance that integral measures of it have to acquire a veridical picture of poverty suffered by victims of violence, specifically IDPs. Finally, a case study was carried out in the municipality with the highest number of IDPs in the country after the city of Bogotá, called Soacha. To do so, a survey applied to persons included in the most important program to tackle poverty in the country was conducted, and the role that local authorities have addressing this matter was analyzed; to conclude with a set of policy recommendations.

DISAPPROPRIATIONS is a conceptual and practical reflection on online digital archives in particular, and on found footage filmmaking in general. It entails a series of 11 video artifacts exhibited online and “on-site” through QR-code stickers spread throughout the city of Montreal.  My main objective has been to investigate and instigate a dialectical montage as defined by Eisenstein, in the hyper-reality of the social, as defined by Jean Baudrillard. Secondly, I explore and promote a radically experimental use of editing (as digital assemblage and manipulation of moving images) with regards to digital based media. Although inscribed into the tradition of found footage film, DISAPPROPRIATIONS is a search for an archival practice that embraces cyberspace as a source of content and also as an aesthetical domain. Last but not least, this project is fundamentally the result of an intense reflection upon my past, present, and future film practice and the creative embodiment of three years’ research done within the MFA programme.

Résumé: Cette étude se fonde sur l’analyse des réalisations didactiques du texte litéraire en cours de langue. Au sein de la didactique de la littérature il existe plusieurs théories qui replacent aujourd’hui le texte littéraire comme un terrain très fertile pour le développement des capacités autres que langagières chez les apprenants. Ainsi nous nous centrons sur la didactisation des textes littéraires dans deux manuels de FLE, notre objectif est de faire un état de lieux concernant le potentiel transculturel des textes et comment ce potentiel est exploité dans la didactisation à travers des tâches qui impliquent l’investissement du lecteur, surtout au niveau culturel. Abstract: This research is based on the uses of literary text in foreign or second language courses. Nowadays, the latest waves in didactics of literature have placed these texts as one of the richest sources of elements which can help students develop not only linguistic skills but also cultural ones; therefore they are named “fruitful land”. In our case, our biggest interest is to analyze the didactisation of texts in two of the latest books conceived for FFL (French as a foreign language) teaching. Our main objective is to know what the current situation of our research is. In other words, we aim to know how the literary texts are didactised and whether or not their transcultural potential is taken into account in the process. In order to analyze this, we also take a look at the tasks and the type of relationship between the reader and the reader, mostly when it comes to cultural topics.

During the last decades there has been an increase in the generation of solid wastes in the world, in developing countries the situation has been specifically critical since in many cases there is no adequate treatment for the solid waste due to the scarcity of the resources and to the poor conscience of the real situation and possible consequences. This document presents the composting method as a suitable alternative for the treatment of solid waste in developing countries considering that its costs are not so high and that the composition of the solid waste is mainly organic. The analysis was based on a current literature review and on the study of some cases of composting projects, according to the results an operational guideline for the development of composting projects in developing countries was proposed. The guideline is composed of two main cores: the planning system and the evaluation system. The planning system supports the development of a composting project and the evaluation system is a base for the comparison of performance between different future cases.

Long Term Evolution (LTE) is one of the latest mobile communication technologies being commercially deployed worldwide. It has emerged as a promising technology for new applications such as mobile video surveillance (IPVS) due to its higher data throughputs as well as the quality of the service management capabilities. This work focuses on the performance evaluation of a mobile and real-time IPVS system over a LTE network in both operation modes, namely FDD and TDD. The QoS Requirements for the IPVS were defined and two simulation analyses were performed in OPNET Modeler in order to compare them to the QoS Delivered. The first analysis studied the performance of the IPVS service from a capacity point of view in a single cell scenario while the second analysis looked at the performance of the IPVS service in a sample network configuration including several cells. In light of the analysed results it was evidenced the flexibility of TDD operation mode in terms of capacity as well as its higher delay and packet delay behaviours in comparison with FDD operation mode. Additionally it was shown that TDD index 6 does not comply with the QoS performance required for an IPVS service in a multi cell network.

The Web, as a source of input, is an element that is being considered as an additional educational tool for second language learning. For an effective use of the Web for second language learning, Dodge (1988) and March (2005) suggested the use of WebQuests. WebQuests are based on the characteristics of scaffolding, socio-constructivist perspective, cooperative learning, and development of high-order skills. Previous studies have concluded that WebQuests promoted reading skills but not writing skills (Kocoglu, 2010). The present study is aimed to find out if the use of WebQuests enhances lexical richness in writing since vocabulary is an essential part of language learning skills. For that purpose, two different groups of 13 participants each were used: an experimental group which get involved in a WebQuest and a control group which performed an unguided web-searching task. Both groups took a writing pre-test and post-test. The compositions obtained were entered into the computer program VocabProfile found in www.lexutor.ca. This program is based on four word lists established in the measure Lexical Frequency Profile (Laufer and Nation, 1995). Statistical analysis showed that the experimental group used more high-frequency words at the pre-test stage, and that the control group evidenced significant progress from the pre-test to the post-test.
