LUIS VIDALES nació en Calarcá (Quindío), en la zona cafetera de Colombia, el 26 de julio de 1904 y murió en Bogotá el 14 de junio de 1990. Fue el único vanguardista que tuvo Colombia en su tiempo. Su libro Suenan timbres, publicado en 1926, es una de las obras fundamentales de la poesía colombiana del siglo XX. Fue miembro de la llamada Generación de Los Nuevos y uno de los fundadores del Partido Comunista Colombiano. Recibió el Premio Lenin de la paz en 1985.
