The Twelve Days of Christmas

Por: Dan Andreasen | Fecha: 2024

The traditional English carol, "The Twelve Days of Christmas," has been sung and enjoyed throughout the holiday season for centuries. In keeping with its courtly tone, most illustrated treatments of the song use a formal art style. Now, a new version is geared specifically to young readers, using playful images of animals romping and cavorting to the song's lyrics. Imagine beret-wearing French hens, four "calling" birds chatting on the phone, or frolicking frogs as the lords-a-leaping. Colorful, lighthearted scenes by acclaimed illustrator Dan Andreasen bring a whole new interpretation to the holiday carol. From the first day to the twelfth, readers of all ages will enjoy this rendition of counting down the days of Christmas.

The Legend of the Beaver's Tail

Por: Gijsbert van Frankenhuyzen | Fecha: 2024

Long ago Beaver did not look like he does now. Yes, he had two very large front teeth, but his tail was not wide and flat. It was thick with silky fur. Vain Beaver is inordinately proud of his glorious tail. When he's not bragging about his tail, Beaver spends his time grooming it, while the other woodland creatures go about their business of finding food and shelter for their families. Eventually Beaver's boasting drives away his friends and he is left on his own. But when his tail is flattened in an accident (of his own making), Beaver learns to value its new shape and seeks to make amends with his friends. Based on an Ojibwe legend.

Octonauts Vol #3 Frown Fish

Por: | Fecha: 2012

"The original Octonauts books have inspired a popular animated television series broadcast worldwide. In their third storybook adventure, the Octonauts meet a frowning fish who's sad expression is making everyone around him glum. Our heroes' challenge is to cheer him up by sharing their favorite and fun pastimes. We bet you didn't know that Sauci Dog was a shutterbug, Dr. Shellington liked miniature golf, and Peso Penguin loved to play music. But can the playful crew make their new friend smile? "Blame it on the Olympics. With Beijing behind us, thoughts turn to Vancouver, then Meomi, the team that designed the 2010 mascots. Next thing you know, we remember there is a new Octonauts book coming out in October. Why write about clown fish when there's a frown fish that needs cheering up? In The Octonauts and the Frown Fish by Meomi, the underwater crew use activities such as a baking marathon to entice their new friend to smile. Another affordable piece for the adult collector of cute." - Art MoCo Reviews "Too many children's books talk down to kids, thinking that talking on their level equates to dropping IQ points. It's refreshing to read The Octonauts and the Frown Fish, a smart and entertaining kids book...it's fun and teaches a lesson to look past the exterior and appreciate what's inside. Comic book readers looking to get their kids into graphic storytelling early will want to seek out this one. Nice bed time story reading, this one is." - Ain't It Cool News "As promised, here's a post about kids books, and specifically Meomi's fabulous The Octonauts series...The books in question are The Only Lonely Monster, The Sea of Shade, and the new release, The Frown Fish. All hold the attention of the grownups, the teenager, and the school-age tike in the house. Seriously, everyone should run out and get these." - BoingBoing "The cast of colorful characters are on another deep blue adventure, this time to help out the frown fish have a little fun. Each page is a treat for any color lover as the book is full of color cuteness of soft yet vibrant palettes, and the wonderful compositions and styling we've come to expect from the Meomi team's illustrations." - Colour Lovers" About the Authors Meomi is Vicki Wong and Michael Murphy who live in Vancouver, Canada. Octonauts Vol #4 Great Ghost Reef

Por: | Fecha: 2012

"The original Octonauts books have inspired a popular animated television series broadcast worldwide. In their fourth adventure, the Octonauts travel to a large reef city. When they arrive, they discover that the once bustling waters have turned into a ghost town! The colorful coral has turned an eerie white and buildings lay empty and crumbling. The Octonauts explore the different reef 'neighborhoods', from mangrove forests to seagrass meadows, to learn about the plants and animals that make up this strange tropical world. Will the crew be able to find clues to solve the mystery of the Great Ghost Reef? Reviews "I've had the pleasure of reviewing all of the books in Meomi's wonderful 'Octonauts' series, which are published by Immedium. I have to say, they just keep getting better and better, and the newest, The Octonauts & the Great Ghost Reef is probably my favorite yet. Not only are the illustrations so cute I want to hang them on my walls, but the story is great, and it's educational. I've selected a few of my favorite images for this post, but pick up the book, because it won't disappoint! Every page is filled with the cutest illustrations, featuring Meomi's signature characters!" - Tokyo Bunnie "The Octonauts are Diesel Oakland's favorite team of underwater animal explorers. Cute, colorful, imaginative, and action-packed, their exploits appear in four volumes...Their mission? To investigate the mysteries of the deep and to help their fellow creatures. Kids will love the fact that The Octonauts have their own unique personalities, a deep sea workstation in which they live and play, and jobs just like real scientist-explorers. Adults will appreciate the cool graphics and quirky humor. And both will look forward to the vibrant illustrations and little visual details that make each adventure worth returning to again and again." - Colin Waters, Diesel Bookstore, Oakland, CA "The eight cuddly underwater explorers...take a vacation to the Great Reef City only to discover the wondrous reef ecosystem has become bereft of both life and color...the anime-inspired artwork and oodles of minute details bubbling around each page will have [children] deeply immersed in the fantastical undersea world." --Ian Chipman, ALA Booklist" About the Authors Meomi is Vicki Wong and Michael Murphy who live in Vancouver, Canada.
