Los videojuegos representan actualmente la mayor industria cultural del planeta. Sus cifras de ventas, su difusión y sus usuarios no dejan de crecer año a año mostrando una industria con presente y con mucho futuro, todos los estudios socio-económicos lo corroboran. Si entendemos las búsquedas de Internet como una pequeña realidad de lo que ocurre en la sociedad no nos extrañará saber que la palabra juego y game (juego en inglés) se encuentran entre las diez más buscadas en Google, que puede situarse como la referencia a nivel mundial como motor de búsqueda (http://www.google.com/insights/search/). Este artículo pretende explicar muy brevemente qué hace a los videojuegos un producto tan exitoso y qué nuevas tendencias de negocio se están desarrollando en la actualidad como los serious games, el cloud-gaming, videogame on demand, perspectivas de descargas online en videojuegos, el pass online y una visión del futuro del videojuego por parte de los usuarios.
