Sasaki and Miyano, Vol 6

Por: Leighann. Harvey | Fecha: 2023

The moment has arrived. Miyano knows. He knows Sasaki likes him. And Miyano has realized...he likes Sasaki back, in a BL romance kind of way. Step one: realization is complete--but step two: confession is much harder than he thought it'd be. Just how did the guy he's crushing on work up the courage to say it to his face all those months ago"

Luba And Her Family: A Love and Rockets Book

Por: Gilbert. Hernandez | Fecha: 2022

In the tenth volume of The Complete Love and Rockets Library, and the fourth collecting writer-artist Gilbert Hernandez's Palomar main storyline, his sprawling family saga moves to the United States, where newly immigrated Luba and her sisters, body-builder Petra and therapist/film star Fritz, find their families' and friends' lives becoming more and more intertwined. As the three sisters have "memories of sweet youth," the next generation finds the spotlight: Luba's adult daughter, Doralis, emcees the proceedings in her role as mischievous host of a children's TV show, while Petra's little girl, Venus, has adventures with her aunt Fritz and her best friend Yoshio. At her mother's urging, Venus also writes missives to her fierce, one-armed cousin Casimira, who's back in Palomar. In these stories from 1997-2001 -- never before collected together -- Venus tells it like it is!

Angels And Magpies: A Love and Rockets Book

Por: Jaime. Hernandez | Fecha: 2022

The sublime, the superpowered, and the senior citizen converge in Angels and Magpies, which collects the Gods and Science: Return of the Ti-Girls and The Love Bunglers graphic novels from the Love and Rockets Vol. III: New Stories series, as well as Hernandez's 2006 serial for The New York Times. In the latter, Maggie pays a visit to Queen Rena, who is living out her twilight days on an island after a lifetime as a wrestler and an adventuress. In the Ti-Girls segment, superheroics get a screwball spin when Angel of Tarzana and Maggie square off against Dark Penny Century. In the "Love Bunglers," held as perhaps Hernandez's greatest masterpiece in his decades-spanning career, and one of the great graphic novels of all time (it was hailed by Slate and Publishers Weekly as one of the best stories of the year), the past and present converge as Maggie and Ray's reunion is threatened by long-buried family secrets. This is the thirteenth volume in The Complete Love and Rockets Library and chronologically the sixth part of the Locas storyline.

Penny Century: A Love and Rockets Book

Por: Jaime. Hernandez | Fecha: 2022

The eighth volume of The Complete Love and Rockets Library is the fourth omnibus edition of writer-artist Jaime Hernandez's Locas storyline. It starts off with a blast with "Whoa, Nellie!," a graphic novelette in which Maggie, who has settled in with her pro-wrestler aunt for a while, experiences that wild and wooly world first-hand. Then it's back to chills and spills with the old cast of Hopey, Ray Dominguez, and Izzy Ortiz -- including Maggie's romantic dream fantasia "The Race" and the definitive Ray story, "Everybody Loves Me, Baby." Penny Century also features two major "flashback" stories: "Bay of Threes" finally reveals the full back story behind Beatriz "Penny Century" Garcia, Maggie's long-time, bleached-blonde bombshell friend, while "Home School" is one of Hernandez's popular looks at his characters' lives from when they were little kids, drawn in an adorable simplified Dennis the Menace -style. These comics originally appeared from 1996 to 2002.

The Girl from HOPPERS: A Love and Rockets Book

Por: Jaime. Hernandez | Fecha: 2022

In The Girl from H.O.P.P.E.R.S., Hernandez refined his artistic storytelling approach, settling into the more naturalistic environment of a fictional Los Angeles neighborhood, Hoppers, and the lives of the people who live there. In stories like "The Death of Speedy," such is Jaime's mastery that even though the title telegraphs the end of the story, the downhill spiral of Speedy, the local heartthrob, is utterly compelling and ultimately shocking. Also in this volume, Maggie begins her on-again off-again romance with Ray D., leading to friction and an eventual separation from Hopey. This volume is the third in a comprehensive and chronological series, The Complete Love and Rockets Library, and the second that collects all of writer-artist Jaime Hernandez's "Locas" storyline in which characters change as they age in "real-time."These stories, created between 1985-1991, first appeared in the long-running (and ongoing) Love and Rockets comics series, also featuring work by Jaime's brothers, Gilbert and Mario. L&R has been called "the greatest American comic book series of all time" by Rolling Stone and "a great, sprawling American novel" by GQ. It broke ground with its craft and the casual intersectionality of its huge and diverse casts of nuanced characters (many of whom are LGBQTIA+) who live and have relationships in often-naturalistic settings and situations. (Although L&R has SF and magical realist elements too). Along with contemporaries Chris Ware, Lynda Barry, and Daniel Clowes, the Hernandez brothers pushed the comics medium into new artistic heights.

Maggie the Mechanic: A Love and Rockets Book

Por: Jaime. Hernandez | Fecha: 2022

This volume is the first in a comprehensive and chronological series, The Complete Love and Rockets Library, and the first that collects all of writer-artist Jaime Hernandez's "Locas" comic books and graphic novels. The storyline revolves around the indomitable Maggie, her anarchic best friend/occasional lover, Hopey, punk music, paramours, friends, family, and the Southern Californian neighborhood Hoppers 13, aka Huerta. Maggie the Mechanic collects the earliest and most sci-fi stories where, in addition to our heroes, we meet bombshell Penny Century, weirdo mentor Izzy, wrestler Rena Titanon, and potential love interest Rand Race. As well as seeing Hernandez develop as a cartoonist from 1981 to 1989, readers will see how he draws characters with various body types that change as they age in "real-time."These stories first appeared in the seminal, long-running (and ongoing) Love and Rockets comics series, also featuring work by Jaime's brothers, Gilbert and Mario. L&R has been called "the greatest American comic book series of all time" by Rolling Stone and "a great, sprawling American novel" by GQ. Ogi's Summer Break, Volume 1

Por: | Fecha: 2023

It's love at first sight for Haruto Ogi when he befriends Tago, a vision-impaired high school student who navigates the world with a cane and and a carefree, forthright attitude. But when Tago proposes that they go out for the summer, Ogi is torn between excitement and a deep-seated certainty that the connection between them isn't meant to last. Behind Ogi's flinching uncertainty is a deeper fear of rejection, and Tago's casual approach toward their relationship only makes him more self conscious. For the first time, Ogi feels like he can be himself, because Tago can't see his appearance and judge him by his 'eccentricities.' But does Tago really care for Ogi as his boyfriend, or does he just want to keep Ogi's friendly presence by his side? A quirky and gentle story about overcoming one's fears and loving yourself and others for who they truly are.

Children of Palomar and Other Tales: A Love and Rockets Book

Por: Gilbert. Hernandez | Fecha: 2023

Children of Palomar and Other Tales (the fifteenth volume in our Complete Love and Rockets Library omnibuses and the eighth Gilbert volume) begins with "Me for the Unknown," uncollected since its original 2001-2004 run in Love and Rockets Vol. II comic books. Written by Mario Hernandez and drawn by Gilbert Hernandez, it traces the Rabelaisian journey of Tagg Lillard. A U.S. citizen with a seemingly perfect life working in Latin America, he escapes a death trap clutching important papers, and an imperious CEO and his manservant pursue him through a land plagued by colonialist/corporate greed. Also collected: one of their joints from 2008, "Chiro el Indio." In The Children of Palomar suite of short stories (2006-2007; collected in 2013), there are many mysterious visitors, an apparition that haunts childless women, and readers learn how Chelo lost her eye. And in Julio's Day, which originally ran from 2001-2008 and was collected in 2013, a man's life--threaded with war, loss, illness, and forbidden love--spans a century.
