The Fifth Beatle is the untold true story of Brian Epstein, the visionary manager who discovered and guided The Beatles--from their gigs in a tiny cellar in Liverpool to unprecedented international stardom. Yet more than merely the story of "The Man Who Made The Beatles," The Fifth Beatle is an uplifting, tragic, and ultimately inspirational human story about the struggle to overcome seemingly insurmountable odds. Brian himself died painfully lonely at the young age of thirty-two, having helped The Beatles prove through "Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" that pop music could be an inspirational art form. He was homosexual when it was a felony to be so in the United Kingdom, Jewish at a time of anti-Semitism, and from Liverpool when it was considered just a dingy port town.

We Sing from the Heart: How The Slants Took Their Fight for Free Speech to the Supreme Court
A compelling account of Simon Tam's fight for free speech that ended with a landmark supreme court decision. Music is a way to transcend cultures and divides. Simon Tam used his band's name, The Slants, to make a powerful statement that racist insults could no longer be hurtful to Asian Americans. But then the U.S. Trade and Patent Office tries to stop him. In his eight-year battle to win trademark protection, Simon would go all the way to the Supreme Court in a landmark case (that included Ruth Bader Ginsberg) to rout out structural racism in our government systems. Written with the full collaboration of Simon Tam, Mia Wenjen takes us back to Simon's early days and the formation of the band, to the long battle to claim the name they chose to use. We learn of his motivations and the years-long struggle that leads ultimately to the Supreme Court of the United States. Told using lyrics from the band's hit song about their trademark fight, this compelling story will keep readers riveted until the dramatic ending. We Sing from the Heart gives background and context to the significance of Simon's quest, not just for him and his band, but for free speech rights for us all. Newcomer to children's books, Victor Bizar Gomez, channels the indie music world with dynamic artwork which compliments the storytelling and is sure to draw in readers with his exciting graphic approach.

        Brontë
Charlotte, Emily, and Anne Bronte--faced with an ailing father and an alcoholic brother--pursue independence through art in this graphic vision of the lives of three legendary writers. Despite their family's stormy fortunes, the Bronte sisters resolved to write. To thwart the nineteenth century's double standards, they took the names of men, becoming the Bell brothers. Their works incited controversy and speculation, while at home, the sisters contended with the rages of Branwell Bronte, their self-destructive sibling. Manuela Santoni presents a time before Jane Eyre, Wuthering Heights, and The Tenant of Wildfell Hall were known as literary masterpieces, when winds shook the Bronte house and determination held it together.

        The Princess of Clèves
Entering life at the French royal court, a world in which "what is shown is rarely the truth," the young Princess of Cleves learns of passion's torments, of heartbreak, and of the agony of love. Claire Bouilhac and Catel Muller's graphic-novel adaption of this classic tale--often referred to as the forerunner of the modern psychological novel--remains faithful to the original 17th-century text, while also providing surprising and original insight into both the mystery of the creative act, and the link between the author, Madame de La Fayette, and her heroine, the Princess of Cleves.
