En esta última década observamos en el cine chileno una suerte de paradoja. Por una parte, la producción se sitúa exitosamente en el circuito internacional, obteniendo diversos premios y reconocimientos. Solo para remitirnos a la academia norteamericana, el año 2015 el filme Historia de un oso (Gabriel Osorio, 2014) gana el Oscar al mejor cortometraje animado. Dos años después, Una mujer fantástica (Sebastián Lelio, 2017) obtiene la estatuilla en la categoría mejor película extranjera. Recientemente, en 2021 El agente topo de Maite Alberdi es nominado a mejor documental en el mismo certamen. Estos eventos son vistos por los medios locales como un síntoma de buena salud en una industria que gana prestigio en el ámbito tanto nacional como internacional. Ambos son frutos de un esfuerzo conjunto entre incentivo estatal y el emprendimiento creativo, dando como resultado la promoción del cine chileno a modo de marca sectorial» de una industria creativa modélica para los estándares locales e internacionales.
