Cul de Sac: Complete Collection Vol #2

Por: Richard. Thompson | Fecha: 2014

Cul de Sac began newspaper syndication in September 2007 and ended in September 2012, when creator Richard Thompson retired to focus on treatment for Parkinson's disease. In its too-short time on the comics page, Cul de Sac garnered an avid fan base, a Reuben and a Harvey Award, and remarkable admiration from the cartooning community. In tribute to the strip, all the cartoons that were ever published are gathered here and as a bonus, there are selections of Richard Thompson's pre-syndication Cul de Sac watercolored Sundays.

Lucky Cow

Por: Mark. Pett | Fecha: 2013

"Sacred cows make the best hamburger." --Mark Twain Virtually every American, regardless of social status, eats fast food. Cartoonist Mark Pett's Lucky Cow strip embodies the spirit of America's love-hate affair with fast-food joints and the traits they have in common: * High turnover: Two Lucky Cow employees argue over who has seniority; the one who was hired at 9:30 that morning eventually wins. * Uniformity: A Lucky Cow employee boasts that a customer can visit any of the restaurant's franchises and they are all the same--right down to the lackluster customer service. * Cleanliness (or lack of it): People's shoes adhere to the sticky floors, and an employee's skin absorbs so much of the restaurant's grease that water rolls right off it. * Food quality: The response to a customer's query about the Lucky Cluck Chicken Nuggets being organic is met with, "Well, they're made from organs." To help ensure that Lucky Cow would feel authentic, cartoonist Mark Pett worked at McDonald's for a month, experiencing fast-food "culture" for himself and interviewing his coworkers about their lives in the business. So it really is "funny because it's true."

Argyle Sweater Treasury: Tastes Like Chicken

Por: Scott. Hilburn | Fecha: 2013

Scott Hilburn's The Argyle Sweater boasts a readership ranging from the Washington Post and the Los Angeles Times to the Calgary Herald, and more than 1 million Argyle Sweater greeting cards have been sold. Inside Hilburn's colorful cartoon panel, oversized animals, malevolent Care Bears, and an unstable Hamburger Helper cavort with bees, wolves, zebras, cavemen, mad scientists, and nursery-rhyme and funny-page icons to offer a critique of society and popular culture. Captured with Hilburn's visceral talent and bold pen stroke, The Argyle Sweater is a celebrated visual and cerebrally astute panel fueled by thoughtful imagination and a skewered attention to detail.

Crankshaft: Your Favorite Crab Cakes!

Por: Chuck. Ayers | Fecha: 2013

He blusters and grumbles. He rants and raves. He tries to outgun the school kids chasing after the bus on his route. But in his heart, Ed Crankshaft has a decent streak a mile wide. Patiently explaining death to his grandson Max. Comforting his friend Ralph as Ralph's wife descends into Alzheimer's. Thrusting flowers and candy at his son-in-law on a nearly forgotten wedding anniversary. The star of the hit comic strip Crankshaft is a gentle soul stuck in a cantankerous mood. With a supporting cast that includes Ed's two daughters, Chris and Pam; Pam's husband, Jeff; and their kids, Max and Mindy, Crankshaft appeals to families everywhere who steadfastly deal with intergenerational cares and conflicts. As one critic said: "Crankshaft is a witty, thoughtful commentary on the trials and tribulations of today's senior citizens." But, of course, Crankshaft is so much more. The strip's approach to Alzheimer's generated countless letters and e-mails, as did Crankshaft's near-death illness. Hilarious and clever, honest and moving, Crankshaft both keeps readers laughing at the curmudgeon's pranks and pondering life's real meaning in this collection, Your Favorite...Crab Cakes! It's a balancing act that's rarely attempted in the comics--and with Crankshaft, it works admirably.

Non Sequitur Guide to Aging

Por: Wiley. Miller | Fecha: 2013

A satirical take on getting old from a genuinely funny and brutally honest combination of economic, physical, and social standpoints. Non Sequitur is Wiley Miller's wry look at the absurdities of modern life. A hit with millions of fans, the strip is syndicated in more than 700 newspapers. Non Sequitur has won four National Cartoonists Society divisional awards, the most prestigious prize in cartooning. Get Fuzzy Vol #15 Treasury of the Lost Litter Box

Por: Darby. Conley | Fecha: 2013

The daily comic strip Get Fuzzy is cartoonist Darby Conley's wry portrait of single life with pets. In the Treasury of the Lost Litter Box, the gang is back to endure the trials and tribulations typical of any family . . . more or less. At the center of the mischief is Rob Wilco, a single, mild-mannered ad executive and the guardian of Bucky and Satchel. Bucky is a temperamental cat who clearly wears the pants in their eccentric household, while Satchel is a gentle, sensitive pooch who struggles to remain neutral, almost guaranteeing he'll wind up on the receiving end of whatever trouble Bucky has cooked up. Treasury of the Lost Litter Box is a compilation of the Get Fuzzy misadventures previously chronicled in Ignorance, Thy Name Is Bucky and Dumbheart. Treasury of the Lost Litter Box is perfect for fans of the comic strip and a hilarious, if not-so-gentle introduction for new fans.

On the Media lauds Darby Conley as "the most successful cartoonist of the new generation." --National Public Radio As Darby Conley's fourth treasury, this title presents strips from I'm Ready for My Movie Contract and Take Our Cat, Please! Named Best Comic Strip of the Year in 2002 by the National Cartoonists Society, Darby Conley's Get Fuzzy takes a keen and witty look at the dynamics of interspecies cohabitation. Beleaguered ad exec Rob Wilco is the mild-mannered guardian to Bucky, a sharp-fanged, self-absorbed house cat with a penchant for scheming and screenwriting, and Satchel, a gentle laid-back Shar-pei-Lab who frequently finds himself on the receiving end of Bucky's mischief. Inside this fourth treasury, Get Fuzzy fans will follow Bucky's vainglorious pursuit of fame while Rob holds a magazine intervention with Satchel.
