An autobiographical graphic novel about a life-changing trip to Mexico that brings relationship changes. Kat has no responsibilities and nothing to tie her down. She'd graduated university with no plans. She was an artist, but hadn't drawn in five years. She was lost. And she'd been avoiding admitting to herself something that all of those around her knew: that her boyfriend, Richard, has some serious problems with alcohol. Looking for a fresh start, the two of them quit their jobs and embark on a journey to Mexico for what what they expected to be the adventure of a lifetime. Their experiences changed both of their lives, and Kat rediscovered a love of art, grew a lifelong attachment to Mexico, and uncovered the strength to move on. The debut graphic novel from Katriona Chapman is a beautifully illustrated recounting of a trip she made around Mexico back in 2003, interspersed with pages of her sketchbook from that time and explorations of the culture, history, and bio-diversity of Mexico. Follow Me In is part memoir, part coming-of-age story, part love letter to Mexico, and is a major work from one of the best comics makers in the UK.

The Delano Grape Strike
On September 16, 1965, Filipino and Mexican American migrant workers joined together to strike against the grape growers in Delano, California. The farmers left the fields to demand better wages and benefits. Led by Larry Itliong, Cesar Chavez, and Dolores Huerta, the two groups created a union called the United Farm Workers of America. For five years, UFW brought attention to their cause through boycotts, a 300-mile march, and other nonviolent efforts in what became an important victory in the fight for labor and farmworker rights in the United States.

Shays' Rebellion
In 1786, the Massachusetts government was seizing farmers' lands and throwing them in jail for unpaid debts and taxes. But many people couldn't pay because they had not yet been paid for fighting in the Revolutionary War just a few years before. Frustrated by this treatment, Daniel Shays led upset citizens in an armed revolt. Although their rebellion was short lived, it made clear to America's leaders that the young nation needed to change its laws, paving the way for the creation of the U.S. Constitution.

Nat Turner's Rebellion
Nat Turner, an enslaved black man, believed he was chosen by God to battle against the evils of slavery. Driven by visions, Turner banded with six others, and on August 22, 1831, his rebellion began with attacks at plantations in Southampton, Virginia. As he and his group moved from plantation to plantation, dozens of enslaved men joined them. Finally, the local militia put an end to their movement, arresting and hanging many of the men involved. Nat Turner's rebellion deepened the divide between Americans who wanted to abolish slavery and those who wanted to protect it, setting the groundwork for the American Civil War.

Illustrating Spain in the US
Since the very founding of the United States, the country's history has been intertwined with that of Spain's, in many essential yet often overlooked ways. Illustrating Spain in the US brings together some of Spain's most acclaimed cartoonists and scholars to celebrate and interrogate the contributions of Spanish immigrants to America's political, cultural, and scientific history. Diplomat Eduardo Garrigues and cartoonist Rayco Pulido resurrect the historical figure of Bernardo de Galvez, who played a crucial role in the Revolutionary War. Professor James Fernandez, Filmmaker Luis Argeo and artists Ana Penyas and Seisdedos bring to life the rollicking immigrant enclave of Tampa, once known as the "Cigar Capital of the World." Professor Estrella de Diego and cartoonist Carla Berrocal shed light on the Spanish actors, screenwriters and musicians who broke into Hollywood and made their mark on American cinema. Professor Maria Dolores Jimenez-Blanco and cartoonist Max lead readers through the labyrinthine history of Spanish art collecting in the US, and the influence of Spanish art on popular American art movements. And much more! Combining the graphic expressiveness of comic art with the illuminating perspective of scholarly essays, this project aims to spark a creative dialogue about Spain's legacy in the US.
